DO’s
1. Always keep your systems/devices (desktop, laptop, mobile) updated with latest patches/Updates.
2. Protect systems/devices through security software such as anti-virus with the latest version.
3. Always download software or applications from known trusted sources only. Never use pirated software on your systems/devices.
4. Ensure all devices/accounts are protected by a strong PIN or passcode. Never share your PIN or password with anyone.
5. Do not share your net-banking password, One Time Password (OTP), ATM or phone banking PIN, CVV number etc. with any person even if he/she claims to be an employee or a representative of the bank and report such instances to your bank.
6. Always have strong password set for your Wifi, Email and other digital accounts.
7. Obtain customer care number from authorized website of the concerned company/organization only. Many search results in Google might be false and fed by cyber frauds.
8. Always use virtual keyboard to access net-banking facility from public computers; and logout from banking portal/website after completion of online transaction.
9. Do scan all e-mail attachments for viruses before opening them. Avoid downloading e-mail attachments from unknown senders.
10. Be careful while sharing identity proof documents especially if you cannot verify the authenticity of the company/person with whom you are sharing information.
DON’T
1. Never share your sensitive information such as your Date of Birth (DOB), OTP, ATM card details and bank information.
2. Do not install any APK/android application from other sources other than Google Playstore.
3. Do not click any hyperlink containing in SMS asking to update PAN/KYC, as they might be harmful and lead to spam sites.
4. Do not Install any software/application such as Anydesk/TeamViewer if someone asks to install and further do not share the Unique ID mentioned which could lead to fraudster gain control of your device and screen.
5. Avoid keeping your name/DOB and other easily guessable phrases as password.
6. Avoid connecting to Open Wifi networks in public which could be purposefully used by fraudster to steal data.
7. Never have your Wifi / Mobile data stay ON at idle times when not in use.
8. Never Download/Execute any installation file from unsecure/malicious site since it may contain malicious code that could damage the entire system.
How to report a Cyber Crime?
1. Dial Cyber Helpline number 155260 for online financial loss over cybercrime under 24 hours.
2. Logon to www.cybercrime.gov.in to register an online complaint about Cyber Crime incident.
3. Visit Cyber Crime Police Station located in Subramaniyapuram, Trichy District.
